Originally from North Carolina, USA, I’m now based in Whangarei, New Zealand—calling the YWAM Zion/Northland base my home. The heart of every YWAM base is to “know God and make Him known,” and this is primarily done through walking with young adults as they grow in their faith—most commonly through a Discipleship Training School (DTS). As a staff member at Zion/Northland, I’ll be walking alongside both students and staff, encountering Jesus through lectures, small groups, street evangelism, worship, intercession, outreach, and so much more. Well let me tell you! YWAM is the largest missions organization in the world and our school goal is to know God and to make Him known. It is also our goal to reach the ends of the earth to share the amazing love of Jesus to everyone and anyone! Now over a year ago after my first year at college I felt called to go on a missions trip for about a month to Africa. Within that trip the voice of the Lord spoke to me and I felt like I heard God saying "Drop out of college and become a full-time missionary" with no hesitation I submitted - it has been one of the best decisions I've after made. Since then the Lord has taken me to so many different nations where I got to experience the Gospel truly come to life! Isaiah 6:8 "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!" After partnering with YWAM KONA as a student I now feel called to be a part of this family again but as a staff! This is an opportunity I dream of, where I'll be able to partner alongside other staff walking with students, discipling them and pushing them in their faith with God. Not only that, but I get to do all this in the NATIONS! Like I said a dream come true - I've always had a heart for discipleship and my heart continues to shatter for the nations. There isn't anything else I would rather do! Now here's where it gets good - about a year ago I received a vision, I was in space looking down at the entire earth, with confusion in my heart I asked the Lord what does this mean? The Lord reminded me of how big of a dreamer I really am and told me not to set my dreams low but higher than the eyes can see. I began to feel this burning fire within my heart, a desire to not only go to one nation but "To all, to every". My hearts desire is to go to every nation, preaching the word of God to others and walk just as Jesus did. Jesus has changed my life completely and I am ready to share His love! My heart burns to see people, especially this next generation, walk in the fullness of what God has purchased for them through the cross. As your eyes move across this page, seconds are slipping by—seconds in which someone still hasn’t heard about the goodness of God. Someone is waiting for hope. Someone is waiting for truth. What are we waiting for? We need to go. My Story The first time I tried drugs wasn’t in an alley or at a party—it was in the bathroom stall of a church. From age 15 to 21, addiction ruled my life. I tried to fill the ache in my chest with smoke, substances, and anything that promised relief. But everything changed the night I encountered the love of a Man with holes in His hands at a worship night two years ago. Jesus met me—deeply, personally—and He broke every chain that held me. Today, I’m not defined by addiction; I’m defined by the arms of a Father and a King. My name is Michael, I’m 22, and God has given me a burning passion to see young men discover their identity in Christ. I now serve full-time with YWAM Honolulu, a missions organization that trains and sends young missionaries to the nations to preach the Gospel. What God Is Doing This past year, I staffed a DTS and helped lead a School of Worship outreach to India, where we trained young believers, equipped local churches, and ran workshops on worship and music. While in India, something unexpected happened—I was marked by the power of intercession. I watched young men gather to cry out for their families and their nation to encounter Jesus, and it awakened something deep in me. I want to be a man of prayer, and I want to raise up young men who know the Prince of Peace, stand firm in truth, and carry the Gospel with boldness. The DTS (Discipleship Training School) is one of the most effective ways to see young people find identity, freedom, and their God-given purpose. And I believe God is calling me to continue discipling, training, and sending out more young men just like me—men who once wandered but are now found. Why Partnership Matters Full-time missions is not something anyone does alone. In Scripture, God designed the gospel to advance through senders and goers working together. Just as missionaries go, the Body of Christ sends—and every person who partners shares in the fruit of the harvest. I had a calling to ministry put on my life during a conference in 2019, and this calling has guided my journey ever since. I studied ministry at Crown College, where God opened many doors for me to pursue my passion for serving others, specifically youth and young adults. My focus with Circuit Riders would primarily be on evangelism and discipleship on university campuses across America. Over the past few years, I’ve felt Him stirring my heart to know Him more deeply and to share His Word with others. That calling has led me to take a step of faith and join a Discipleship Bible School (DBS) through Youth With A Mission (YWAM). The DBS is a three-month journey where I’ll study the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation not just to gain knowledge, but to understand God’s heart and learn how to live out His truth in every area of life. I believe God is calling me to help others discover His character, His Word, and His purpose for them. This school will equip me to teach, serve, and lead wherever He sends me next, whether that’s here at home or across the world. This decision hasn’t been easy it’s a step of faith for me. But I know God is asking me to go deeper with Him, to build a stronger foundation in His Word, and to trust Him completely. My prayer is that through this experience, I’ll grow in wisdom, boldness, and compassion, and be able to help others encounter the same transforming love that changed my life. I can’t do this alone.
