Who is this Tom Durrant guy?
Before Tom Durrant became a Chaplain with the Washington State Patrol, he gained ministry experience serving with Campus Crusade for Christ: first as a Prison Chaplain, then as the Director for the Inner-City Ministry in Seattle, which led to directing the annual Summer-In-The-City/Prison student projects, and this led to Tom becoming the National Director for all the  Summer-In-The-City student projects.
Present: In 2016 became a Police Chaplain and is now the Lead Chaplain for the Western side of the state. Â Tom has 20 fellow chaplains, but is looking for more. Â
As Chaplains, our first priority is to serve the officers of the Patrol, and their families. Â There is no shortage of difficult situations officers are forced to face, and chaplains are there to help. Our second role is to civilians, especially when there has been a death, often resulting from an accident. Â
Although 'Chaplain' is an official position within the Patrol, all our chaplains volunteer their time and resources to the State Patrol, it is our gift to the Patrol. Since chaplaincy is not a paid position, it is the responsibility of each Police Chaplain to secure adequate funding so as to remain available to the Patrol, i.e., Tom can't do this alone!
