Rafael Maia and Hellen Maia are full-time missionaries with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) São Luís, Brazil.

Together, they have devoted their lives to evangelism, discipleship, and strengthening the Church throughout Northeast Brazil. Together, they lead ministry initiatives that reach some of the least-reached communities in the country, including Indigenous, Quilombola, countryside people groups (sertanejo), and riversides communities.

Through the One Bible in Every Home movement, they have helped distribute more than 200,000 Bibles, bringing God’s Word and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to thousands of families. Rafael also leads mission teams, training schools, and evangelistic outreach projects, mobilizing hundreds of Brazilian and international missionaries each year. His ministry includes leading large-scale evangelism campaigns, training and discipling new leaders, and developing strategies to reach the least-evangelized regions of Brazil. Hellen serves alongside Rafael through pastoral care, discipleship, hospitality, and missionary member care, helping equip and encourage the many volunteers and missionaries who serve through YWAM São Luís. As a family, they are committed to seeing Maranhão and Northeast Brazil transformed by the Gospel, believing that every person deserves the opportunity to hear about Jesus and have access to God’s Word.

Their five-year vision is to see 50,000 people hear the Gospel, with at least 10,000 making a decision to follow Jesus Christ, while expanding access to the Scriptures among Indigenous peoples, Quilombola communities, river communities, and other least-reached populations across Northeast Brazil.

Rafael and Hellen are currently building a team of ministry partners who will invest monthly to help sustain and expand this work. Their current goal is to raise US$2,500 per month to support their family’s ministry, train and send missionaries, disciple emerging leaders, distribute Bibles, and continue bringing the Gospel to some of Brazil’s least-reached communities.
