Hi, I’m Kurumi!
I was raised in a non-Christian home and struggled with an identity crisis until I encountered Jesus at the age of 21. I had been living as a transgender person—wearing men’s clothing, speaking like a man, and using a male name. When I met Christ, I came to know the true identity God had given me, and I was set free from both gender dysphoria and same-sex attraction.
As I prayed for healing, I realized that my false identity had been formed based on repeated bullying, trauma, and shame I felt about myself. When I was 12 years old, I also experienced the trauma of losing my home in the tsunami during the Great East Japan Earthquake. Through Christ, I have been healed from all of these past traumas.
Japan is often called a “missionary graveyard.” For more than 100 years, the Christian population has remained at less than one percent of the total population. Many people pass away without ever hearing the gospel. A large number struggle with identity crises, and it is said that Japan’s suicide rate is nearly twice the global average.
There are also very limited resources available for churches and Christians. The more rural the area, the more difficult it becomes to find a church, a Christian community, or resources that provide spiritual support.
My dream is to start a Church in my hometown of Sendai—a place where non-Christians can encounter Jesus, experience God’s love, be transformed, and grow as disciples of Christ.
I also want to share the gospel with LGBT individuals and support them in discovering the true identity God originally created them to have. Additionally, I hope to bring healing and hope through Jesus to those who are struggling with trauma from natural disasters or other life experiences.
For the next few years, I will prepare for church planting and do ministry in New Hope Tokyo. When the Lord has prepared me, I want to go back to my hometown Sendai and plant a church.
Your gift makes this ministry possible. Whether one-time or monthly, your support allows me to focus on ministry in Tokyo and prepare for church planting in Sendai!
Thank you so much for your support and prayers!!
Kurumi
