From the verdant farms of South Asia to the remote villages of Uganda to the informal settlements of South Africa, I’ve volunteered in many places around the world.  Hi!  My name is Anita Siu and I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada.  After I got a Bachelor of Arts as well as an education degree specializing in teaching English literature and history in secondary school, I went to East Asia to teach at a Canadian international school. This was the start of living abroad and serving God abroad.
I’ve been a tentmaker in East Asia, mommy at a children’s home in South Asia, and am currently a Bible teacher in Africa.  In the last 2+ years of staffing School of Biblical Studies (SBS) with YWAM in Cape Town, South Africa as well as speaking at other YWAM schools in Uganda and Zambia, I’ve had the privilege of studying and teaching 29 different books of the Bible!  The YWAM bases I teach at in Uganda and Zambia are located in difficult-to-reach areas where students have many online classes.  I love visiting these bases to meet students, establish rapport with them, facilitate activities which would be next to impossible to conduct in a zoom call, and do life with them!
As a result of the invitation to teach books of the Bible to DTS in Zambia and SBS’s in Uganda, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to go on on short-term missions trips to remote bases with stunning sunsets and intermittent electricity.  On one of the trips, I went to 2 islands (out of the 985 islands on the lake) on Lake Victoria to distribute Bibles to 92 Christians who didn’t have access to Bibles and also share the gospel.  On another trip attached to one of my teaching trips, I visited a refugee camp where people from Sudan, South Sudan and Congo were living off the electricity grid and struggling to make a living for their families.  In fact, a lot of the single mothers couldn’t make enough off of the land to send their kids to school, so there were approximately 60 kids milling outside the church while we were visiting.  Subsequently, we were able to play games with the kids, sing Christian songs, and share a story about Jesus.  At one of the YWAM bases where I regularly visit to teach in Uganda (Jinja), there is a children’s home nearby.  It’s been such a privilege to spend time with the 17 precious children there and show them the love of Jesus in different ways!
In addition to teaching in YWAM, I also serve at my local church, Southreach.  As the only keyboardist currently, I’m on for both morning and evening services.  I’m also assisting with curriculum development for training youth group leaders.  There’s a plan to adapt the curriculum to training for fellowship group leaders.  I’m co-leading the women’s fellowship group and will be co-leading the young ladies’ fellowship group in the new year.  I’m excited at how the Lord will be leading me to serve my church and the local community in the new year!
Please pray for me to grow in intimacy with Jesus and also be empowered by the Holy Spirit to understand Scripture and constantly apply His Word in my life.  Please join me in prayer, asking the Lord to provide for my teaching trips to the more remote YWAM bases in Uganda.  The Lord has led me on a beautiful faith journey, and I’m excited to see what He’ll be doing in my life next!
Anita
